EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU COME
FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
Rocket Ranch provides camping, lodging, touring, and launch viewing from the edge of the exclusion zone of the largest rocket ever built: Starship SuperHeavy at SpaceX’s Starbase.
01
LAUNCH DAY 101
How does launch day actually work?
Arrive at the Rocket Ranch Campground at least 4 hours before the launch window. Once you register, we bus you and your belongings to the Outpost. Please watch your email for more launch-specific instructions.
What happens if the launch scrubs?
Each launch ticket covers every launch attempt of that flight, so if it scrubs you can come back for the next attempt. In case of a scrub, you can purchase $20 Scrub Insurance on site for each additional launch attempt, which helps cover the shuttle bus.
How close will I actually be?
The Outpost sits 3.7 miles line of sight from the launch pad — an elevated platform on the Rio Grande, and the closest perspective available to the public. The Campground is a 9.7-mile drive from the pad.
Are there any discounts?
Patreon members get 50% off launch tickets, and we offer discounts to SpaceX employees. Join on Patreon →
02
THE OUTPOST — 3.7 MI
Where you’ll watch the launch.
What’s it like out there?
The Outpost sits on the Rio Grande at the edge of the 40-square-mile Lower Rio Grande Valley National Preserve. Expect incredible nature and true outdoor camping conditions — bring whatever you need to make yourself comfortable.
What’s provided on site?
A few common-area tents while supplies last (for morning launches), porta-potties, drinking water, and food trucks during the event. Plus two flame trenches for cover.
What happens while we wait?
Full live coverage leading up to the launch, including any in-flight views SpaceX makes available to us — plus music and laser light shows after dark. Mostly, though, you’ll be swapping stories with other space fans. The wait is where the friendships get made.
I’m a streamer / photographer / media.
Welcome home. We host many live streamers and broadcasters with unmatched media service, and offer media packages with special broadcast rooms on site.
03
THE CAMPGROUND — 9.7 MI
What are the camping options?
The Campground sits on 4 acres with plenty of space for self-contained vehicles and tent camping. Two community bathrooms with hot showers are available to camping guests.
What’s in the Ranch House?
The Ranch House common area will be open at select hours. It includes a play room with a full arcade machine, musical instruments, a Starbase livestream, a maker space with 3D printers and CNCs — and of course, merch.
What should I bring?
Among your usual camping supplies, please supply your own potable water for cooking and drinking. All our water is trucked in and is prioritized for the bathrooms and showers.
The Rio Grande River
Licensed fishing is available. Boat rides on our drone ship are for Patreon members only and special events. Swimming in the Rio Grande is very much NOT recommended (and possibly illegal).
Can I rent the place for a party?
Yes — the Andromeda Pavilion is a large shaded area overlooking the river, rentable for parties with its own service container.
Is this a fancy resort?
This is not the Hilton. It is the best place — and community — to be with for launches, and to make lifelong friends.
04
SAFETY & POLICIES
We’re serious about exactly two things: rockets and safety.
Is it dangerous to be this close?
At our proximity, rocket launches can be dangerous. We strongly recommend hearing protection in case of an anomaly. All Ranch activities, amenities, and access to the facility are at your own risk.
What if there’s a Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly?
The Outpost has two flame trenches available for cover. In the event of a pressure wave, you’ll have 16 seconds or less to find shelter or lay flat. We’ll brief you on site.
The fine print
Launch tickets are absolutely non-refundable — excitement guaranteed, plan accordingly. We reserve the right to refuse service.
